What are a couple secret ways to increase FPS in League Of Legends?
There are users in the gaming community who have incredibile and fast computers; most of the time, specialized gaming computers under popular brands such as Alienware, CyberPowerPC, or Corsair.
However, there are also those from the other side of the spectrum, which includes myself. We might not have the best systems for gaming, but it does the job.
In my case, I don’t own a computer; I always play videogames on my trusty laptop, and I’m okay with that.
The bad news?
It’s sometimes difficult to play many of the popular games nowadays, and occasionally, this includes League Of Legends as well.
It doesn’t really matter what kinds of maps I play in.
Whether it be in Summoners Rift, the Howling Abyss, or Twisted Treeline; there would be an FPS drop sneaking in from time to time. Most of the time during teamfights, which especially annoys me.
Are you in a similar situation?
Don’t worry, there’s hope.
Everything changed after applying the tips and tweaks listed below. It might sound like an exaggeration now, but try it out yourself; you’ll see what I mean.
And hey, this doesn’t only apply to those who’re struggling fixing their League Of Legends performance. Even you people with beast computers can use this guide; it might not make as much as a difference though, but it’ll surely help.

Optimize Your In-game Settings
In any game I play, whether I have FPS issues or not, I always tweak the video game settings. I usually play around for about 30 minutes or so, and the results are always worth it.
The few common video settings you can tweak in a game would be resolution, game quality, effects quality, disabling or enabling animations, and then some other minor changes.
It’s mostly the same with League Of Legends; here are my suggested game settings.
- Character Quality: Very Low
- Environment Quality: Very Low
- Effects Quality: Very Low
- Shadows: Off
- Character Inking: Unchecked
Follow the exact settings shown for the best settings for performance. Your League Of Legends will look terrible, but it’ll be smooth as fawk (worth it).
You can also try lowering the game resolution; however, I think that’s going overboard a bit. I mean, we’re only dealing with League Of Legends here.
Remember when following this guide:
You’re going to be sacrificing lots of damn quality for the best performance possible your system can run.
Make sure that “Anti-Aliasing” and “Vertical Sync” are unchecked.
You can set your Frame Rate Cap to whatever you want; personally, I’ve always kept mine set to uncapped.
After changing all your settings, check your game again.
I know, it’s looking pretty bad..
..but hey, your FPS should have increased by a huge amount.
If you want to revert changes, go back to video options and find the “Restore Defaults” button.
Tweaking League Of Legends game.cfg Guide
It’s now time to tweak the game.cfg.
Don’t expect some massive change from this tip, as I tried it myself and I’m not even sure if it did anything.
But you know, I don’t really care how effective it is as long as it increases my FPS even by atleast a tiny bit.
Open your “File Explorer” and enter “C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\Config.” Or wherever you placed your Riot Games folder in, find the config folder.
Once your in the config folder, locate the game.cfg file.
Make sure you copy the file and place it somewhere on your desktop.
You can now open the file with Notepad or whatever editing program you have.
If you’ve followed correctly, you should end up with something that looks like this.
Here’s a tip:
To easily locate the settings listed below, use “CTRL + F.”
Find the settings below and change it accordingly:
- EnableGrassSwaying: 0
- Colors = 16
Then, input this at the very bottom (of course, without the bullet points):
- Inking = 0
- PerPixelPointLighting = 0
- AdvancedReflection = 0
It should look like this.
If you’re unsatisfied with whatever the changes do to your League Of Legends, simply delete the game.cfg.
Another one will be created the next time you open League Of Legends.
Gain Higher FPS With High Performance Power Plan
What are power plans?
To put it simply, a power plan basically decides and administers the use of power in your system.
And with each power plan, comes with a drastic performance change.
By default, your computer probably uses the balanced power plan. As the name suggests, the balance power plan balances performance and energy consumption.
We’re going to change to the high performance power plan, which favors performance more.
Let me show you:
Open “Control Panel” and search “Power Options.”
Select the high performance power plan.
In doing so, you’re going to be pushing your computer for performance; expect your system to heat up. I also recommend having a dependable fan.
If you don’t see the high performance power plan, move to step 3; otherwise, move on to my next tip.
On the left side, click on the “create a power plan” option.
I believe you can do the following steps by yourself.
Disable Unwanted Startup Programs
Here is my fourth tip on how to increase FPS in League Of Legends:
Disabling unnecessary startup programs.
As a frequent computer user, I obviously have a bunch of programs downloaded. I bet you’re the same.
Many of these programs actually startup automatically upon turning on your system, resulting in slower performance as they’re left in the background.
For me, it was Skype, Discord, Spotify, Adobe, and a few other programs. To be honest, I didn’t even notice they would run in the background as I played League Of Legends.
I’ve definitely learned my lesson.
Press “CTRL + ALT + DLT,” then select “Task Manager.”
Alternatively, you can search up Task Manager through the search bar.
Now that you’ve opened up Task Manager, we can begin.
Select the “Startup” tab on top, and start looking through the listed programs.
It’s now your choice which programs or services to disable or keep enabled. You can also look at “Startup Impact” to assist you in your decisions.
Restart your system to notice changes.
Update Graphics Drivers for Increased Gaming Performance
Okay, I don’t have to explain into detail the importance of updating your graphic card drivers. You just have to if you want to keep up with the latest games and programs.
Ultimate Performance Power Plan
Unfortunately this is only a feature available to users with Windows 10 v1803. But if it does work for you, that’s great.
Found a simple and easy to follow tutorial on it:
This is definitely not recommended for laptops with very limited cooling options. However, if you want to take the risk, you do you.
I haven’t tried it myself as I know my laptop probably won’t be able to handle it. There are also a couple of remarks that point out the Ultimate Performance Mode doesn’t do anything.
I’ll let you guys decide.
To be honest with you fellas, there aren’t many great methods out there you can directly do to League Of Legends to elevate performance.
I do however, believe that you should continue tweaking your overall system.
Because not only will doing so grant a smoother gaming experience, but it will also enhance the overall speed and health of your computer.
Nonetheless, I appreciate y’all for giving my amazing guide (How to Increase FPS in League Of Legends) a chance.
Even if you didn’t get that massive FPS boost you expected, I believe you benefited regardless.
